TXM Recruit are looking for Test & Validation Engineers working for one of the leading train manufacturers/maintenance train companies in the UK.
We are looking for individuals from a rolling stock, REME and Aircraft (Avionics) background who hold advanced experience within the field of Electrical engineering.


3 x Test & Validation Engineers

Pay: £46.25 Umbrella per hour (inside ir35 so
would need to be paid through an umbrella company or PAYE)
Location: County Durham, North East
England / Leicestershire & West Midlands & Derby & Doncaster
Qualification: HND / HNC in Mechanical or Electrical
engineering
Shifts: Mornings, afternoons, and nights.  
Hours: 40+  hours per week depending on client requirements
Contract length: to May 2024 - potential for extension (On-going contract)
Laptop and Mobile Phone provided

Brief Responsibilities:

Responsible for the design, specification, execution, and reporting of the Project Validation (type testing) that validates the design is right, and the design and specification of Routine Testing and Commissioning that validate every train is built correctly.
 
  • Review, understand and improve the Test and Validation team processes and procedures.
  • Research the train requirements (legislative, safety, standards, compatibility and customer) and the train/component/train equipment design to identify the Project Validation requirements and the Routine Test and Commissioning requirements.   This will involve working with HRJ, HRI, and suppliers.
  • Develop and use wide networks across the business/OEMs the research different approaches to validation and select the best approach for each project. This will involve working with HRJ, HRI and suppliers.
  • Develop strategies/specifications for Project ValidationRoutine Testing and Commissioning, working closely with stakeholders, including HRUK Engineering, NoBo, HRUK Safety and Approvals, to agree the approach.
  • Develop Routine Testing and Commissioning procedures to ensure validation is repeatable and consistent as early in the product lifecycle as practical.  Where necessary, support training of staff in these procedures.
  • Where necessary design the tools/equipment (jigs, test rigs, software test modules, simulations, instrumentation systems, etc.) necessary to support Project ValidationRoutine Testing and Commissioning
  • Identify and seek appropriate additional support/expertise when necessary. 
  • Support the development of detailed test programmes and work with colleagues to identify how the implementation of multiple tests can optimised, to minimise the time/use of resources/trains.
  • Support the execution of series Routine Testing and Commissioning through training, reviewing implementation and checking results.
  • The planning, co-ordination of resources, execution and analysis of Project Validation (type testing), including routine testing and commissioning of pre-series trains. 
  • Author Project Validation test reports.
  • Compilation of validation results to identify trends; lead continuous improvement to test and validation procedures, and provide feedback to designers/suppliers on improvements opportunities for the design/components.
  • Support forums and presentations to customers, consultants, regulators, infrastructure owners (e.g. NoBo Reviews, Safety Management Review Group, Test Forum, etc.)
  • Provide technical advice and support to Routine Testing and Commissioning teams.
  • Support and lead investigations, diagnosis and resolution of complex issues.
  • Proactively and constructively challenge practices and assumptions where there are opportunities to improve safety, improve quality and/or reduce waste.
  • Research and develop expertise on one of more areas of the Rolling Stock Product.  Provide expert support to the team in this area; provide technical management of equipment/instrumentation required for this area; champion this area and ensure the team maintains and develops the necessary expertise.
  • Support the development of a Safe Method of Work for all T&V work.
  • The role holder may be required to support the installation/de-installation of test equipment or instrumentation to a train.
  • The role holder may be required to support maintenance, fault finding and rectification and safe operation of trains.
  • On occasions, and with their agreement, the roll holder may be called upon to support the response to traumatic incidences.

Job Skills and Experience:

Experience ideally working within a rail service and maintenance environment
Relevant experience in rolling stock test & commissioning
Experience using measuring instruments such as multimeters, recorders, etc.
Able to write detailed test reports
Flexible, and able to adapt to changing circumstances, and provide solutions in a climate of continuous improvement
Excellent organisational and time-management skills.


Qualifications:

HND/ HNC Mechanical OR Electrical Engineering
