TXM recruit are looking for Welding Technicians (TIG) in Newton Aycliffe.

Hours:  12 hr shift pattern 6am - 6pm Mon to Thursday and 6pm to 6am Monday to Thursday 

Location: Newton Aycliffe 
Pay per hour 6am - 6pm days: £21.53 PAYE or £28.30 Umbrella
Pay per hour 6pm - 6pm nights: £25.44 PAYE or £33.44 Umbrella

You will support the operational teams to deliver parts within dimensional tolerances of drawings as well as carrying out welding & fabrication activities of our Rolling Stock Car Body fleet.

You will have extensive prior experience working in a similar role. 

Applicants should be able to demonstrate all of the Essential Requirements listed below
  • Able to perform a variety of welding / fabrication tasks in Aluminium including coded welding to relevant standards in TIG or MIG
  • An understanding of health and safety requirements of a working  welding environment
  • Ability to work unsupervised - able to make decisive, informed decisions within the welding environment
  • Excellent dexterity and coordination
  • High level of accuracy / excellent attention to detail
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • The ability to deliver to schedule
  • A willingness to work flexibly and a positive approach to work and working patterns including shift work
  • Commitment to working as part of a team
  • Maintaining good eye sight
  • Focusing on creating a high quality finished product
  • Being professional and responsible for work area
  • Strong interpersonal / communication skills at all levels
  • Ability to learn new skills to a high standard and train others. To deliver high standard training to colleagues
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills
  • Work closely with and support the Section Leader (including deputising). Have previous experience of deputising for a superior
  • Willing to learn new job skills - Kaizen, 5S and participate in improvement activities
  • Have a ‘Can do’ attitude to supporting both welding and working with other functions
  • Previous experience of working within a team environment

Qualifications
  • MIG or TIG coded qualification

Desirable Requirements
 
  • Previous experience in welding aluminium
  • Lifting qualifications
  • Train the trainer qualification or relevant training experience
Welding and fabrication of car bodies and sub-assemblies. To include:
 
  • Carrying out welding activities in accordance with WPS and SOP’s.
  • Working with limited supervision, making decisions based on analysis of work and applying welding skills.
  • Carry out safe movement of Car Body panels
  • Preparation of weld surfaces in readiness for welding
  • Ensure that work is only carried out in accordance with coding / qualification to the correct specification
  • Carrying out weld repairs – Full accountability for weld quality and ensuring self-checks are made to ensure work meets standard.
  • Carry out weld finishing activities.
  • Carry out pre and post weld inspections - inspects own pre/post weld work and has the responsibility to correct to the required standard. Problems encountered may not be routine /defined and need analysis to understand correct course of action.
  • Full completion of and accountability for all weld records.
  • Reporting of any incidents or damages to the Section Leader and taking the lead on problem solving and improvement activities which may include linking with engineering and quality department colleagues.
  • Contribute to building a culture of sharing best practice across the welding team and wider car body function. Support all activity related to training others including design and delivery of training. Share knowledge and experience with others in the team. Assist others with building their skills and experience, including delivering training to e.g. people in other roles, less experienced or new colleagues. 
  • Correct control of weld equipment and associated consumables
  • Adhere to and actively promote correct Health, Safety & Environment procedures.
  • Set and maintain the highest standards of housekeeping in the area at all times.
  • Full knowledge and compliance of area Risk Assessment
  • Monitor, control and minimise waste.
  • Ensure correct extraction is used and execute corrective actions using appropriate company procedures across the area.
  • Support and complete tasks in the assembly area when required
  • Leading and monitoring own progress against the role competency / training matrix and feeding back on status to the Section Leader at various intervals. 
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, creating a positive working environment within the team that harmonises with Hitachi Company values.
  • Continually promote and support the Hitachi culture within the team.
  • Act as an effective team member amongst peer group of technicians.
  • Role model values and behaviours.
  • Deputise for Section Leader when required.
  • To be aware of and actively promote and implement Hitachi’s ethos, culture and values.
