We are looking for a senior professional with expertise in technical assurance, for a major rail expansion project in Canada. This project requires comprehensive assurance processes to achieve regulatory compliance, and to get the approval of asset owners and operators. This role offers the opportunity of working in a wide variety of technical areas, such as construction, railway systems, rolling stock and operations and maintenance.
The Technical Assurance Director must be flexible and adaptable, keen to develop professionally. The successful candidate will be a leader in the delivery of assurance assignments, coordination of technical assessments, formal feedback to clients and have an extensive knowledge of the Rail Industry Technical standards and requirements with regards to all elements of a complex railway program.
Key Responsibilities:
Understands clients’ requirements and how they fit into the wider assurance regime.
Identifies, develops, and executes strategies to meet or better the specified requirements.
Leads the delivery of assignments of large levels of complexity for various elements of a railway program, from start to finish.
Ensures that the scope, time, cost and quality requirements are met, and risks and issues are identified and managed.
Works efficiently, effectively, and proactively to help the team deliver on various aspects of the project.
Develops and maintains good working relationships, both internally and with clients.
Manages the expectations of clients and other internal or external parties ultimately reaching sensible agreements/conclusions.
Manages and resolves any conflicts that may occur on a project in an appropriate manner.
Ensures that the client’s expectations are met and exceeded throughout project delivery, including leading others within the team to achieve this goal.
Coordinates technical assessments with specialist engineering teams and perform technical assessments where the appropriate competencies have been demonstrated.
Produces and reviews documentation associated with key project deliverables.
Develops and mentor junior members of the team, including inspiring them and acting as a role model to them, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment, where the team can, learn, develop, and drive increased business results.
Actively contributes to a continuous improvement culture, including improving internal processes, sharing solutions and knowledge.
Drive an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcome different perspectives, and enable career progression by fostering a sense of belonging.
Required Skills and Experience:
The successful candidate will have a strong track record in leading complex projects and knowledge and experience of the below:
Experience of EN 50126 (IEC 62278) – Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety (RAMS).
Experience of Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment.
Experience in engineering design, production, and/or review of compliance evidence within a regulated industry
Experience working closely with clients including face-to-face meetings, leading and presenting in meetings
A methodical and proactive approach to assignment planning and delivery
A degree in engineering or equivalent experience
Relevant Professional Designations
Ability to critically assess projects and complex situations, identifying potential solutions
Ability to communicate in a clear, concise and non-confrontational manner
Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships
Ability to lead client meetings including presentation, negotiation and agreement of key requirements, related both to technical aspects (supported by specialists as required) and project delivery
Ability to manage conflicts through to resolution
Ability to provide technical and project management leadership and mentoring
Ability to provide leadership within the business, including leading and developing others
