Shift Engineer
Location: Oxford 
Salary: £22.15 per hour (Monday-Friday), £25.47 per hour (weekends)
Hours: Minimum 40 hours per week on a rotating shift basis (05:00-15:30 and 13:30-00:00)
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent


Key Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose, inspect, maintain, and repair company vehicles.
  • Work independently using specialist skills to provide timely solutions.
  • Use diagnostic equipment to identify vehicle faults.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and compliance with transport regulations.
  • Conduct road tests (if license permits).
  • Maintain and safely handle all tools, materials, and specialist equipment.
  • Stay updated with technical developments through training and continuous professional development.
  • Follow all Health & Safety policies and risk assessments.
  • Act as a professional ambassador for Oxford Bus Company and public transport.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Essential:
    • City & Guilds Level 3 / NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
    • Knowledge of mechanical engineering and vehicle maintenance procedures (PCV or HGV).
    • Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
    • Ability to work independently and manage tasks efficiently.
    • Full manual driving license and own hand tools.
  • Desirable:
    • IOSH qualification or similar Health & Safety training.
    • Understanding of DVSA & Department of Transport standards.
    • Experience with automotive electrics and fault diagnostics.
    • Ability to gain a PCV license.
