TXM Recruit are excited to announce an opportunity as an Embedded Software Engineer (Design) working with one of the leading manufacturers of innovative Rail and Traffic Management products.
 
Role Overview:
 
You will be responsible for working as part of the Engineering team developing products for manufacture using new and emerging technologies to support the businesses growth plans. Key responsibilities will be to support current products with technical design changes and modifications, perform design and development work for medium sized projects and projects normally under supervision of the Design Lead, but can act as the design authority for smaller products / projects. You should be capable of producing full documentation pertaining to the project / and or product and will contribute to safety cases and design for reliability reviews.
 
The role is focused on innovation, development and design assurance and requires a breadth and depth of technical knowledge across high integrity software development processes.  You will be required to interpret formal project requirements and develop and test new and improved products which are commercially viable.  The products designed are safety critical in nature.  In this role strong analytical skills and report writing are required with a requirement for all technical documentation to be completed to a high standard to conform to industry processes and standards.
 
The role is based in Crewe with a hybrid working pattern in operation.  You will work as part of a cross-functional and multi-site Design and Development team and maintain regular contact across the business with good relationships within commercial and manufacturing teams..
 
Essential Criteria:
 
  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science or Electronics Engineering or equivalent STEM based subject)
  • Experience of writing and testing
  • C++, C , Python for embedded applications, including hardware drivers.
  • Experience of designing and testing interfaces to sensors, cameras, storage and networking devices
  • Experience of interfacing to FPGA and micro-controllers
  • Experience of developing software test cases, code reviews and static code analysis
  • Experience of writing modular, reusable, high-integrity code (eg MISRA or similar)
  • Experience of DevOps tools and continuous integration
  • Experience in software design lifecycle – from concept to release and maintenance (ideally in safety critical industry)
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Able to liaise with customers and/or other stakeholders to understand technical requirements.
  • Strong customer focus
  • Passion for producing innovative design solutions.
  • Excellent team player - Ability to work with engineers, managers and senior leadership level within the organisation.
