GENERAL SUMMARY  

To machine a range of components from the Celeros products portfolio using a variety of CNC vertical turning lathes to specified drawings, set up sheets, data sheets and other technical information. The Machinist is expected to work in safe manner and adhere to all health, safety & environmental policy, and procedures, whilst being totally responsible for the quality of their work. The machinist will work efficiently using specified cutting equipment, with an aim to achieve the standard times allocated against each operation. The role involves a high level of flexibility in terms of machine size and a familiarity with FANUC systems, whilst working across day and night shift work patterns.

 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

 

  1. Using a variety of CNC equipment, produce components that comply with engineering drawings and other supporting documents.
  2. Be responsible for the quality of own work, including the measurement of dimensions and where required recording them on relevant documentation.
  3. Ensure any issues related to the quality of components, the machines or equipment are reported immediately to line management
  4. Accurately record times taken against each operation, and in conjunction with Industrial Engineering team & the Machine Shop Manager feedback standard time variances.
  5. Sign off production orders with relevant information to ensure compliance within the ISO 9001 quality management system.
  6. Follow all health, safety & environmental policy & procedures to ensure the company upholds and exceeds its legal responsibilities.
  7. Maintain a clean working area adhering to all housekeeping requirements as specified by your line manager.
  8. Assist with the training of other employees, including apprentices.
  9. Use initiative and propose ideas to improve quality, productivity, and cost performance.
  10. Drive continuous improvement, including maintaining 5S & visual management to improve department performance.
  11. Other reasonable tasks as requested.
 

SKILLS  

  • Able to interpret engineering documentation
  • Attention to detail and quality focused
  • Good understanding of health & safety in a factory environment
  • Must be a team player with good communication skills
  • Good organisational and planning skills
  • Self-motivated, show initiative and be able to operate independently as well as in a team
  • Be able to use overhead gantry cranes and jibs (training can be provided)
 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  

  • Mechanical apprenticeship trained with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in industry.
  • BTEC Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering / adjacent field or equivalent experience.
  • Fanuc Setting / Operating experience required.
  • Experience with live tooling preferable.
  • Experience proving new programs and setups.
  • Experience lifting and handling heavy components (500kg to 7000kg) of 0.5m to 2.0m diameter. Additional lifting and crane training available if required.
  • Experience of using and implementing lean tools.
