Purpose of position

A key developmental position in the company's operations, heading up a state-of-the-art plant, manufacturing FMCG packaging.  This job will provide a springboard for a high potential candidate within the global activities of the company

 

Nature and scope

Reporting to the Plant Manager the jobholder is responsible for all aspects of production, spoilage and efficiencies within a 24/7 continuous operation, manufacturing site.  The Shift Managers, and Logistics & Transport Manager all report into the Assistant Plant Manager.

 

Principle Accountabilities

  • All Aspects of Production
  • Achievement of daily manufacturing output in line with OEE standards
  • Reduction of downtime and spoilage to theoretical limits
  • Investigate/follow up on all process problems ensuring necessary corrective actions are taken and maintained
  • Using the latest lean manufacturing techniques, create an empowered culture to achieve continuous improvement and cost reduction
  • As required present the plant in all matters and relationships with external bodies
  • Ensure the quality of the product is to customer standards
  • Ensure all team members are trained/supervised to carry out their duties effectively and to the highest standard of quality and safety
  • Promote and be a role model among his reportees for safety working practices
  • Manage Behavioural safety programme and train the employees
  • Provide positive and corrective feedback to team members
  • Create an environment which will promote and maintain good industrial relations, safe working practises and good housekeeping
  • Project work as required

  • Participate in workplace inspections/behavioural safety programme.
  • The Assistant Plant manager deputises in the absence of the Plant Manager and EHS Manager. The Assistant Plant Manager’s absence is covered by the Plant Manager.

Requirements for this position

  • Engineering Degree
  • Preferably a post-graduate diploma (MBA, Msc Manufacturing science)
  • Black belt trained
  • Experience within EHS, ideally NEBOSH qualified
  • Problem solving/total quality skills
  • Manufacturing background in a high volume continuous process
  • Successful track record in man management
  • Change management
  • Experience in handling industrial relations issues
  • Good understanding of modern lean manufacturing techniques – SMED, Kaizen 5S, Kanban, Structured Problem solving, TPM/OEE, SPC, 6 Sigma etc.
  • Proven track record of achievement
  • A Management style heavily orientated to training and coaching
  • Working to KPIs
  • Good computer skills – ability to manage via computerised data
  • Fluent English
