The Machine Shop Manager is responsible for all aspects of Manufacturing included (but not limited too) H&S, Quality, Production, Projects, Continuous Improvement, Labour, KPI Management. Whilst this role reports directly into the Managing Director you will have full autonomy for the department.
Machine Shop Manager – Role Overview:
To control and improve all production processes within their department by managing people, time and resources to meet the business targets.
Key Responsibilities for this Machine Shop Manager include but are not limited to:
- The successful introduction of lean manufacturing principles throughout the business
- Supervise and develop team members and managing individuals
- The control, organisation and coordination of departments
- Control of machining strategies
- Review the production programme to determine manufacturing requirements in terms of manning, capacity and resources
- Ensure that all machines and equipment are maintained in a satisfactory condition to maintain product quality and improve the general environment
- Ensuring a lights off running methodology is applied to every machine
- Develop manning plans to achieve the Company's objectives
- Liaise with design office to supply set & run times for customer product quotes
- Achieve monthly output levels and daily run rates
- Review scrap, nonconformance products and quality problem areas and action to resolve
- Identify key performance monitors (KPIs) for each area on key outputs and display in the appropriate areas
- Instigate disciplinary procedures where necessary
- Identify improvement opportunities and prioritise in order of importance
- Responsibility for data ownership, blue prints and the updating of quick reference guides
Machine Shop Manager General Responsibilities:
- Ensure the Company's quality policy is understood and implemented
- Ensure all Health & Safety rules are adhered to
- Identify areas for cost reduction and productivity improvements
- Monitor and review subordinates for performance, training and future development
- Recommend new work methods, layouts, processes and equipment to improve performance
- Teamwork Show a positive attitude to work and others
- Display flexible attitude to work time as required
- Recognise and react to customer expectations
This Machine Shop Manager will have the following Skills and Experience:
- Degree Qualified or equivalent qualification within Engineering (HNC, HND etc)
- Comprehensive understanding and experience of creating efficient product machining strategies is essential
- Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of managing staff
- Experience in Machining is essential
- Working knowledge of modern manufacturing techniques e.g Six Sigma, Lean, Kaizen etc
- A strong analytic skill set with the ability to interpret data
- KPI driven
