To advise the plant management on health and safety and environmental issues and to ensure the plant meets it legislative obligations in a proactive manner. The jobholder will act as a central coordination for environmental and health and safety activity, including management systems and is accountable for rolling out companywide environmental and health and safety initiatives and to provide an interface between European manufacturing sites, utilising information for best practice activity.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

" To stay abreast of environmental, health and safety legislation and create robust management systems to proactively comply with such legislation
" Translate the management system into actions required across the plant
" All plant shop floor personnel have a dotted line into the EHS Manager regarding H&S and environmental issues
" Responsible for developing and integrating environmental, health and safety management system across all plant personnel
" Responsible for ensuring that ALL employees receive suitable environmental, health and safety training so that they work to company and legislative safety requirements
" Responsible for maintaining and developing all systems to ensure that all staff, visitors, contractors, temporary workers etc. comply with relevant environmental, health and safety requirements
" Develop and progress the site annual safety plan and environmental management Programme
" Develop and progress the business FSPP and Life programs
" Lead and facilitate EHS Kaizen events when applicable.
" The EHS Manager's absence is covered by the Assistant Plant Manager.

Principle accountabilities

General
" Ensure plant management are aware and informed of legislative requirements and that they are translated into actions and included in the management system
" Responsible and accountable for operating within plant environmental, health and safety budget targets
" Timely incident investigation and reporting to all relevant parties such as Group EHS, Regulatory bodies and Plant Management team, highlighting necessary corrective actions
" Where required manage the design, selection and installation of EHS capital investment projects
" Update and maintain the Plant and Regional EHS KPI process
" Ensure that all employees fully understand their individual and legal EHS obligations
" Ensure that adequate arrangements exist, or are put in place, to cover the absence of those personnel with key environmental, health and safety responsibilities
" Liaising with HR for induction and all essential environmental, health and safety training requirements
" Co-ordinate and carry out environmental, health and safety audits in compliance with the audit program
" Participate in the Management Steering Committee review process
" Ensure any Management of Change items are reviewed from a Risk perspective
" Ensure the timely rollout of both Best Practice and EHS standards

" Develop and maintain the risk assessment programme across the site
" Develop and maintain the near miss programme and manage high risk actions
" Train, coach and participate in the behavioural safety programme, monitor compliance and feedback data to the Plant Management team.
" Develop the Life Program and report on its progress to the Plant Management team and Regional leaders
" Maintain and develop the site accreditation status with external bodies for environmental, health and safety activities
" Facilitate and maintain the plants insurance inspections under Loler and Power Press regulations and translate actions to the relevant departments
" Facilitate the Loss Prevention survey within the Plant and ensure actions are completed in a timely manner

" Liaising with HR for identification and management of health issues as they arise to ensure that staff is not subjected to unnecessary risks
" Facilitate and maintain the plants insurance inspections for Local Exhaust Ventilation systems and translate actions to the relevant departments
" Organise occupational monitoring on a periodic basis and report findings and corrective actions to all employees
" Liaise with key stakeholders to ensure substances are not brought to site that could pose risk to health

" Ensure that all necessary environmental records are generated and maintained in the Environmental log
" Maintain the Plant environmental permit and ensure full compliance to its conditions and requirements
" Manage all waste leaving site and ensure consignment notes are held and available for inspection by regulatory bodies
" Develop and implement sustainability plans to reduce both water and waste within the site
" Ensure the control of VOC emissions are within the limits of the site permit
" Liaise with engineering to identify energy reduction projects
