Purpose of the position

The purpose of the position is to service, maintain process control and ancillary equipment to ensure the smooth and continuous running of the manufacturing area. Although the workshop personnel may be asked to assist on the production line, their normal duties are carried out under the instruction of the Electrical Supervisor with the main aim of servicing the requirements of the manufacturing process and therefore assisting the Plant to meet budget requirements.

The shift pattern could either be a 12 hours days/nights rota or a 42 hours a week Mon to Fri day rota depending on the department needs.

Nature and scope

Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor, key responsibilities include:

" Ensuring the maximum efficiency from all electrical equipment by means of safe preventative maintenance.
" Acting on own authority and initiative on day to day matters.
" Improvements to all electrical equipment and services.
" Assisting with the execution of plant engineering projects from start to completion.
" Co-ordinating the safe repair and maintenance of electrical and electronic equipment within the plant.
" Keeping abreast of any new equipment or processes that are relevant to our particular industry.
" Maintaining an adequate inventory of spares for electrical and electronic equipment.
" Supplying administration department with a breakdown of labour and material costs for the electrical part of all capital and C&A CER's.
" Monitoring the progress of electrical or mechanical/electrical apprentices during training.
" Ensuring that electrical risk assessments are completed and reviewed as necessary.
" Encourage, by their conduct, a conscientious attitude to the environment.
" Instruct all new employees, on the known hazards and any necessary precautions of which they should be aware.
" Participate in workplace inspections
" Ad hoc project work as required

Requirements for this position

" Apprentiship in an Electrical Engineering Discipline
" Problem solving / total quality skills
" A Manufacturing/Engineering background in a high speed, high volume continuous process
" Successful track record in man management

" Proven record of achievement
" Good computer skills - ability to manage via computerised data
" Working knowledge of relevant Legislation e.g. Electricity at work regulations 1989

The above job description is the minimum requirement for this job position. It is also expected that the person will carry out any task requested by a supervisor or any task needed to improve the general performance of the Plant equipment.

PERSON SPECIFICATION - MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION

" Apprenticeship in a Manufacturing Electrical Engineering discipline.
" Computer literacy.
" Working knowledge of Health and Safety work practises.
" A manufacturing background in a high speed, high volume continuous process.
" Experience of preventative and planned maintenance on workshop and production equipment.
" The ability to assist with breakdowns and line conversions.
" Can demonstrate the ability to work precisely with strong attention to detail.
" A team player with strong problem solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work alone under their own initiative.
" The ability to work well under pressure and organise and prioritise their work load.
" Ability to read and follow SOPs and complete paperwork accurately and thoroughly.
" A basic knowledge of quality and hygiene systems would be advantageous.
