Job Description for Control Gear Test Engineers / Test technician.
The Control Gear Test department deals with a wide variety of electrical and electronic products and systems, from 1980’s technology to new product development, meeting customers’ needs for supporting legacy product and providing innovation for the rail industry through new products.

Working within the Control Gear Test department, you will be responsible for functional testing and repair of a wide range of electronic Pcb’s, systems and sub-assemblies for our customers. The sub-assemblies may consist of electrical, pneumatic or high-power equipment and would involve point to point wire checking, insulation (H.P.I.T), sequence testing and fault finding to component level.

As well as handling current production work, the role will also involve repairing and carrying out modifications to customer returns as part of our spares and repairs services. You should be able to fault find electronics down to component level, on through hole and surface mount products and be a competent user of basic test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes and signal generators.

A working knowledge of Microsoft office and ISO 9001 will also be needed as key aspects of the role will be to enter data, retrieve information and write test reports in relation to the products being tested. You should be able to understand technical drawings and specifications, whilst possessing good communication skills and can liaise with other departments within the organisation.

As part of the daily activities you will be required to work to deadlines and be able to plan your workload. You will be a contributing team member whilst also showing the ability to work with minimum supervision.

Other skills that would be an advantage include;
• Knowledge of 68000 processor systems.
• Experience of Electro-pneumatic/Electro-mechanical components.
• Experience of High Voltage/High current equipment.
• IPC-J-STD-001 certification.
