We talked to the Red Bull Technology apprentices and found out what it was like on their first day.
Today, students across the country find out their A-level results and whether they’ve been accepted into their chosen university. With the hike in tuition fees, many have taken alternative routes like apprenticeships. We talked to the Red Bull Technology apprentices and found out what it was like on their first day.
I arrived at Red Bull Technology reception to be welcomed by a camera, the local press was there to take lots of photos and even the BBC filmed a few of us. I think by that point I realised how big this apprenticeship was! I’d just been awakened on how amazing this opportunity is and how lucky I am to be given it. After the photos and the filming we all got our uniform sorted and soon after we were given ridiculous amounts of information to soak in and got to ask as many questions as we could think of.
All I can really say is bring it on, I’m ready to work hard and become one of the best engineers I can be!
During my first day of my apprenticeship at Red Bull Technology I was surprised to find a lot of media and cameras. People from the BBC and MK college were taking photos and recording interviews asking what thoughts people had on the apprenticeship scheme and their emotions towards being one of the 10 people accepted for the job. Initially, I was nervous when asked to answer a few questions to a voice recorder, but soon found out that the questions were reasonable and fairly straight forward to answer. All the while during this, I was getting more and more excited about starting work.
I feel that the first day went very well, and I am extremely excited to fully express my committed potential, enthusiastic work, and dedication to the team.
So today was my first day working with Red Bull Technology! Being told that I had succeeded to get a position in this apprenticeship scheme was so exciting and having found out that I had been selected in the top 10 from over 700 applicants just made it incredibly overwhelming!
I have been extremely nervous during the week leading up to today, however, when I woke up this morning, almost all of my nerves turned to excitement. It feels absolutely incredible to now be part of Red Bull Technology and I cannot wait to get further into the apprenticeship scheme and begin to learn new skills within the team.
My first day has been just as informative as I had expected, and has been quite a lot to take in! It wasn’t until I walked in to the reception this morning that it had sunk in that I was now part of Red Bull Technology, so to just be sitting here writing this is a privilege! Walking around the factory today has made me realise what an opportunity this apprenticeship scheme is to make my way in to the F1 industry.
In all, I have thoroughly enjoyed my first day here, and look forward to continuing my experience with Red Bull Technology!
Upon arriving I just sat in the main reception which was relatively quiet compared to other days. But soon after we started taking our photos which broke the ice and conversations started and it was all very exciting knowing that our apprenticeship was now starting. I don’t think I have allowed so many photos of me to be taken before in a space of a few hours in my life but I suppose that was all part of the experience of starting at Red Bull Technology. The only thing I was dreading was the possibility of having to speak to the BBC news, as I am quite camera shy or shy in general, but that passed with ease….mainly because I didn’t have to do it.
Now all I can think of is what is ahead and what we have to look forward to in our future here at Red Bull Technology.
Today was the first day of full time work for a lot of us and first day at Red Bull Technology for all of us. Arriving at 8.45 we were greeted by cameras – a surprise for some, but an introduction into how big a role the press plays in F1. It was here that I realised the full extent of what we have achieved and how far all of us had come. It’s quite a big deal apparently? After this we went back to the room where we’d all been assessed, already bringing back memories of how we got to where we are now. In the afternoon we were reminded of the input everyone in the company puts in -110% and I’m sure I’m not alone in looking forward to properly joining them.

April 30th, a nerve racking day for me after two months of a selection process that tested my ability to showcase my qualities and passion for the sport of motor racing. Starting with photos, photos and a few more photos, the ‘F1′ lifestyle had started it seemed, being asked questions on emotions and feelings by the local press, however most answers were similar with the key phrase being, ‘excited but nervous.’ After a quick introduction it started to sink in that I was now part of a world beating team and this could be the start of something special.
What an amazing first day at Red Bull Technology. It was everything I expected and more. Red Bull Technology really puts the Tech in Technology. The first day was packed with info about the company and how it operates. I expect big things to come of the days ahead and I am truly blessed to have such an amazing opportunity, and would like to say a quick thanks to all that helped me get here.
On the way to my first day at Red bull Technology today I was really intrigued to see who the other apprentices would be. On arriving I recognised a few faces from the videos posted on the application site and also from the previous test days I had done.
We were all pretty quickly made aware of the glamour and public interest in the field we’re now working in when we were asked to pose for what felt like a thousand photographs in various settings around the building, I was then asked to be one of 4 apprentices to be interviewed by the BBC, which wasn’t one of the most comfortable experiences of my life but will be good to see later on the news!
I’m now, more than ever, looking forward to what the apprenticeship will hold for all of us and can’t wait to get stuck in!
Once I was offered an apprenticeship at Red Bull Technology I could not wait to start. On my first day I was slightly nervous after hearing the press and media may be there waiting for us, it turned out to be okay and we spent the first hour or two having single and group photos for the local papers. The BBC wanted to interview some of us but to my relief I was not selected, I’m very camera shy and wouldn’t have been able to do a good job of it.
Overall I enjoyed my first day and can’t wait to see what the future will bring me.
When arriving on my first day, it was a much different atmosphere compared to how it was in the previous stages. It was a relief really, that I had finally made it, and all my hard work had not gone to waste. It was nice to be in the spotlight also, as the first thing we did was to have our pictures taken with the local press. On top of that, the BBC Look East camera crew filmed us, and interviewed some of the apprentices. It was good to feel important, and to be treated as part of a world championship winning team.
By the end of the day my excitement had grown to a whole new level. I can’t wait to get stuck in!
Hi,
When did they actually apply for the scheme and also when they were chosen, I know one of them says April ? Also was it this year ?
Regards
Hi James,
The apprenticeship scheme was launched in the last week of January this year. The competition closed end of March and the selection process for the final 10 took place in April. We hope to run similar schemes soon but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
Many thanks.
Hi
Are they actually given full time jobs after the actual apprenticeships ?
Regards
Hi James,
There is no guarantee of a full time job at the end of the apprenticeship but they get three years worth of experience with Red Bull Technology and qualifications from Milton Keynes College.
