Head of Production Engineering
This position is based Wellingborough
Purpose of Job
To be responsible for all production process on site and reducing the time taken and the cost of the production engineering process for new jobs.
Ensure delivering on time, to support shop floor production in all aspects of data needed to produce the customer product i.e. Programs, jigs, tooling process, instruction sheets etc. To take responsibility for a team of skilled production engineers.
In addition, deliver the engineering objectives set by the Manufacturing Director, providing regular feedback and reports as necessary.
Duties for this position,
Work with the Plant Director to establish direction, objectives and plans for Production Engineering which support the overall business plan. Review the systems & tools currently used to determine whether they are appropriate Plan, organise and prioritise tasks and projects through allocating the appropriate resources to work.
This will involve implementing a suitable planning tool for Production Engineering and ensuring it is effectively used. Drive culture change and continuous improvement in order to maintain and develop the facility in a safe manner Drive the improvement of the manufacturing methods, by using knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards Support the analysis of quality issues (Rework, defects) using problem solving techniques (5why's, PDCA, etc) Provide a link between the Engineering team and the Manufacturing department in order to improve the manufacturability all products Drive the estimations of production times, staffing requirements and related costs to procure information for management decisions Confer with management, engineering and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate and improve production processes. Support the implementation of any lean initiatives and in any other continuous improvements actions in any area.
Staff / Activity Planning Managing the career development, motivation and training plans for individuals within the Production Engineering organisation and overseeing the development and implementation of continuous improvement system Developing metrics and reporting system necessary to track progress, identifying key improvement areas across all manufacturing systems.
Support production activities and interfaces with other departments To project manage all new product introduction from initial quotation to initial production, whilst supervising cross functional teams through the APQP format.
To investigate new technology and equipment and continually benchmark manufacturing processes and costs against competitor/group. To produce quotations for new products
To provide major process restructuring support and process simulation To identify and specify equipment and provide process and facilities layouts To be responsibile for the control of allocated cost centre budgets. Continually monitoring and identify opportunities for cost reduction both individually and through Company Continous Improvement initiative.

Qualifications
Degree Educated in either manufacturing or mechanical engineering
Skills and Experience
Proven experience gained in niche automotive or aerospace industry.
Proven design or Production Engineering background Extensive knowledge of modern machine tool capabilities for powertrain manufacturing Experience of engineering total solutions to manufacturing problems from concept through to finished product Proven experience of leading project teams and knowledge of project management tools Qualified knowledge of process improvement tools and techniques Evidence of continuous improvement activity including reducing lead times without compromising responsiveness
Second European language (preferably German) - desirable
